Out-of-Hours and Emergency Electrical Call-Out

Great Edge offers a specialist electrical testing and inspection service, including EICR (Electrial Installation Condition Reports) and fault finding of electrical problems. Our USP is that we offer these services out-of-hours, when it may be difficult to reach your usual electrician. The aim of our service is to restore power quickly, and to as much of your home as possible.

Our trading hours are Monday-Friday 6pm-midnight, as well as Saturday and Sunday 8am-midnight.

We are 18th Edition certified (BS7671) in addition to City & Guilds 2391-52 and 2377-77 qualified, with full liability insurance.

Our Electrical Services

In-Service Testing and Inspection of Electrical Equipment (aka ‘PAT’ testing)

Great Edge hold City & Guilds 2377 qualification to be able to offer you our PAT testing service. Aimed principally at landlords and small businesses, our service enables you to prove you have met the due-diligence requirement to provide electrical equipment to your tenants/employees that is safe for continued use. New to the code of practice is that annual/prescribed re-test dates are no longer required. Instead, dutyholders are responsible for establishing a testing frequency based on risk-assessment. Great Edge can work with you to determine the most efficient way forward with risk assessments to ensure both safety and cost aspects are met to your requirements.

EICR

As a specialist test and inspection service, we are uniquely placed to offer EICRs. Inspection, testing and fault-finding are our core skills, but importantly we are not installers**. What that means is that where we are recommending remedial work be undertaken, we are doing so without any commercial incentive. We also offer a simple and easy fee structure for our EICRs - £25 per consumer unit, and £25 per circuit therein. There are no additional charges (other than if a previous election has wired two circuits into one breaker - since those need to be tested independently they are charged separately). But for 95% of households, you can work our our charge by simply counting the number of breakers in your board… No need for quotes or guess-work, and it doesn’t matter how many bedrooms or sockets or lights you have in your house or flat… Simple.

We take pride in our thorough and unbiased approach to earn (and keep) your trust. In addition to the formal EICR certificate, you will also receive a plain-language set of recommendations, and a walk-through of our findings if you wish. **

**where we mention ‘installers’ above we are referring to major works such as new circuits or replacement consumer units. Minor jobs like replacing broken sockets or damaged cables we would be able to undertake for an agreed fee. Very minor works like loose connections, missing labels or otherwise, we will simply deal with on the spot - no charge).

Fault Finding and Restoration of Electricity Supply

If your lights have tripped off or your fridge or boiler has no power and you can’t wait until morning to get things working again, that is the time to call Great Edge. We specialise in fault finding and getting you up and running again, as much as possible. We are working when others aren’t.

Note that because we work outside the trading hours of electrical suppliers, it is very unlikely we’ll have matching outlets or switches onboard to make a like-for-like decorative replacement. Our aim is to get your system working again, which might mean disconnecting a faulty appliance, or bypassing a faulty socket. In other words, most of your system will be working again, but a faulty appliance or circuit may still need attention. After we finish, we’ll issue you a report of our findings within 24 hours which you can use as a guide to replace an appliance, or book an electrician (for example where matching sockets or lights are needing to be sourced and installed). With our report they will know exactly the investigation we carried out, our diagnostic conclusion and recommendation for next steps. Altogether, the report should make it quick and easy for you to source quotes with your usual electrician.

We operate Monday to Friday 6pm to midnight, as well as Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays from 8am to midnight. In all cases, last call is at 11pm.

Why choose Great Edge for your after-hours electrical repair? We are a local company (Horsham resident for nearly 20 years) and we don’t subcontract. The person you speak with to book your job and the person that will attend site are Great Edge employees.
