Knife Sharpening

Quicksharp: £6/each

Our ‘no frills’ service for everyday knives and softer steels. For new customers, we usually advise to start with Quicksharp because we think you’ll be very impressed with the sharpness. But for those with knives made from more premium steel, or needing a longer-lasting edge, we advise SuperSharp (see below).

Supersharp: £10/each

Our premium service for premium knives and high-end steels. We’ll customise the edge according to your knife and apply additional honing steps at the exact edge angle. The result is enhanced sharpness and longer-lasting sharpness compared to Quicksharp.

For Supersharp, we offer a 10% discount for orders of 6 knives or more.

Certain exclusions apply regarding knives that we can sharpen. See What we Sharpen for further details.

Ski Wax and Sharpen

Great Edge is run by a former ski racer and therefore is very well equipped for ski tuning. New for 2024 we are offering this service to our customers.

QuickWax (£35/pair):

Our standard service, sharpening edges and waxing with a hot iron.

SuperWax (£45/pair):

Our premium service, whereby skis are incubated in our custom built oven for an extended period at low temperature. This allows deep penetration of the wax into the ski base, giving a longer-lasting result. Best if you are headed out for a long ski trip and want your wax to last as long as possible. SuperWax is also an ideal treatment for skis at the end of the season to prepare them for storage.

Repairs

If you’ve got a damaged knife at the back of your drawer, why not send it to Great Edge and give it a new lease on life… Minor repairs (small nicks etc) will be repaired for free as part of the sharpening.  For more substantial repairs where regrinding may be necessary we charge an additional fee based on the extent of damage. This will be advised once we have inspected the knife at our workshop, but is usually not more than £10 per knife.  Over the years we’ve been able to restore some very badly damaged knives back to full function, at a fraction of the cost of replacement.
