New for 2024 we are offering ski sharpening services from our workshop. It’s not well known that our director was a very accomplished ski racer in both Canada and the UK. As such we have a well-equipped workshop to offer you high performance ski preparation for the winter season. See our sharpening services page for more details.

Landlord ‘PAT’ testing: Great Edge now has City & Guilds 2377 certification, enabling us to offer In-Service testing and inspection of electrical equipment. This is the new name for ‘PAT’ testing and is a service that can verify that the electrical equipement being provided to tenants (vacuum, refrigerator etc) is safe for continued use. PAT testing itself isn’t mandatory for landlords, but providing safe equipment to tenants is, and in-service testing is the most recognised way of ensuring this.

New to the In-Service testing code of practice is that testing is no longer required annually, but rather frequency is to be determined by risk assessment carried out by the duty holder (landlord). As an example, a television hanging on a wall likely suffers less wear and tear than an electric lawnmower, and those two items needn’t be tested at the same frequency. Great Edge can work with duty holders to carry out such risk assessments to enable the most efficient testing program to be implemented.

We are proud to add two new services to the Great Edge portfolio - Out-of-Hours electrical call out, and EICRs (Electrical Installation Condition Reports). If your lights, kitchen sockets or central heating aren’t working, but it’s too late to call your usual electrician, let Great Edge help you get your power restored as much as possible. We will diagnose the fault, repair what we can, and send you a report the following morning. Of note, when making repairs out of hours, it is highly unlikely that we would have all necessary parts onboard (and certainly not matching electrical accessories). Our aim is to get your home powered up again, but it may be that a faulty appliance, accessory or circuit will need to be replaced. Our report will provide you with necessary information to proceed with quotes via your usual electrician, if required.

New Pricing Structure from Oct 1st:

From the beginning of next month Great Edge will be moving to a new, simplified pricing structure. Our SuperSharp service will now be £10/knife. Sharpening orders of 6 knives or more will receive a 10% discount on the overall charge. Repairs will be £20 per item, with sharpening included. All other items (chisels, axes etc) remain as per the listing on the ‘Our Services’ page.

QuickSharp will be £6/knife.
