“Why get my knife sharpened?”

The best answer we’ve heard to this question was simply: Steak and tomatoes. If you’ve ever tried cutting steak or tomatoes with a dull knife you’ll understand why, but see below for some other equally good reasons

Rejuvenate/Restore.

A sharp knife works better. Let us put an (ahem) Great Edge on a knife for you and you’ll probably find yourself reaching for it more often when you’re working in the kitchen.

Our founder tells the story that before he got into sharpening he had a favourite kitchen knife that he use to save for ‘special’ jobs because he didn’t want to wear out the sharpness! But a knife is a tool and it should work hard for you - not the other way around. Use it often and let Great Edge keep it sharp and in great condition for you.

Every knife benefits from a sharp edge.

We’ve heard before ‘my knife isn’t good enough to worry about sharpening’. But every knife can have a sharp edge and work well for you. If you’ve got a cheap knife in your home, let us sharpen it for you and make it work like a far more expensive blade.

Reduce waste

If you’ve got a dull or damaged knife sitting around that never gets used you might be tempted to bin it. Why not try our sharpening (and/or repair) service to give it a new lease on life - you’ll get a great-performing blade again, and our work together will spare a bit of landfill.

Why Choose Great Edge?

There are lots of ways to sharpen a knive, so why choose Great Edge? Quite simply, because you’ll be putting your knife in the hands of someone that never settles for ‘good enough’. When we first unbox your knife to begin the sharpening process your blade will be inspected under a magnifying camera (you’re welcome to request an image of your blade). We use a laser device to check the existing angle, have special software to be able to sharpen down to a tenth of a degree (!) and various sharpening and honing materials to get you the best possible finish. We also quantify the sharpness of the blade using a BESS test before returning the knife to you, so when we say ‘sharp’ we mean it in an absolute sense. We go to these lengths because precision and care with the bevel are how you’ll get the longest-lasting sharpness.
